You must also have a valid and approved Senate list record for local graduates, and have completed your HND or B.Sc. education or its equivalent. Here is my detailed guide about NYSC eligibility criteria which you don’t want to ignore.

Now that eligibility is clear, let’s move to the actual documents you’ll upload when doing your online registration.

Documents Needed for NYSC Online Registration

When the NYSC portal opens, depending on your category as a PCMs, you’ll be asked to upload some documents input some information. I wrote about the general requirements for online registration which is very detailed. I equally have the registration guide for foreign graduates and married women. Take your time to read them.

Documents Needed for NYSC Camp

Now, here’s the part many people overlook. Some documents you used for registration will need to be printed again for camp. And you won’t be allowed at the orientation camp without them.

Make sure you go to camp with:

  • Green Card
  • Addendum
  • Call-up Letter
  • Statement of result or certificate
  • Medical Certificate of Fitness from a government or military hospital

I listed about 11 documents which are listed for NYSC camp registration. Failure to observe and prepare them in advance will get you sent back home from camp.

Your service year doesn’t have to be confusing. If you stay organized, follow instructions, and ask questions when in doubt, you’ll be fine.

The online registration is your first step, and that’s why getting your documents right from day one matters. Camp life is a whole different ball game so don’t just prepare documents. You also need to prepare your mind and your bag.

What Exactly Is the NYSC Portal?

The NYSC portal is your one-stop shop for everything related to National Youth Service Corps registration and mobilization. From checking the Senate-approved list, to performing online registration, and also printing of call-up letter, the portal is where everything happens.

The official NYSC portal is https://portal.nysc.org.ng so always double-check the URL to avoid phishing or scam websites.

There are many things you can do on the NYSC portal so let’s go through the most important ones.

Checking The Uploaded Senate Approved List

When PCMs talk about the NYSC Senate list, they’re referring to the list of graduates sent in by various institutions to NYSC, confirming you’re eligible for mobilization.

To check if your name is on the uploaded Senate approved list:

If your name shows up, it means you’re eligible to proceed with NYSC registration when the portal opens. If it doesn’t, there’s no need to panic because your school may not have uploaded yet or there might be a minor error so reach out to your Students Affairs Officer..

How to Check My Name on NYSC Mobilization List

The mobilization list and the Senate list are often used interchangeably, especially by students. But technically, the mobilization list includes all eligible graduates from schools whose names have been approved by their school and NYSC. I wrote a detailed guide on the NYSC Senate list as it is sometimes called.

How to Check the NYSC Graduation List

The graduation list is another confirmation step. It’s different from the Senate list and is used to verify that your school officially recognizes you as a graduate.

Here’s how to check your name on the NYSC graduation list:

  1. Go to https://portal.nysc.org.ng/nysc1/GraduateList.
  2. Choose your school.
  3. Enter your matric number, surname, and date of birth.
  4. Click “Search.”

Your name showing up means your school has included you as a recognized graduate. But you still need to appear on the Senate list before you can register for NYSC.

What Is the Age Limit for NYSC in Nigeria?

This is one question that worries a lot of people. If you’re over a certain age, you won’t be allowed to serve but you’ll still get an exemption certificate.

So, what’s the age limit for NYSC?

✅ The age limit is 30 years.

What this means is that:

If you are 30 or younger at the time of graduation (based on the date on your certificate), you are eligible for service.

If you are 31 or older, NYSC will issue you an exemption letter instead.

Even if you’ve been delayed by strike, health issues, or other factors, NYSC only considers the date on your certificate, not what actually caused the delay.

How to Get NYSC Exemption Letter

If you’re not eligible to serve either because of age, part-time study, or other valid reasons, NYSC will issue you an exemption letter.

Here’s how to get it:

  • Your school must send your name in for exemption during mobilization.
  • You will register just like every other PCM whenever the NYSC registration portal opens.
  • NYSC will process and prepare the exemption certificate.
  • Later, NYSC will send the original exemption certificate to your school for collection.

Note that you cannot apply for an exemption by yourself. The eligibility is automatically determined by the NYSC system.

There’s no official date yet for Batch B Stream 1 orientation camp, but it’s expected soon.

NYSC has warned prospective corps members against falling for fake websites and scammers asking for money to “fix” issues.
